Is First Class Mail Insured?

Nope.

You want more color on this? First-Class Mail does not include insurance. If you want insurance for your mail, you can purchase additional insurance from the United States Postal Service (USPS) or from a private insurer.

It probably doesn't make sense to go to a private insurance agent for this. The agent would probably charge you up the nose. But maybe you are sending a Picasso. If you are, probably its best to use UPS, Fedex or courier, honestly.

But if you still want insurance on your USPS First Class envelope here are the current prices, but they always change so check the usps website.

If you want a better option than all this, and you send mail regularly, try Thatch. Check out our Outbound USPS service here. You can upload a PDF to our system and we print and send out the mail for you via First Class USPS. We can also do certified or registered mail so that you are assured your mail is delivered properly. Its way easier than trying to fill out a PS Form 3813 or a PS Form 3813-P. Filled out the wrong one? Sorry the insurance doesn't qualify. You can easily learn to send mail online with Thatch.

USPS will insure up to $5,000 for your letter.
